Kids generally like to write, if the subject is interesting and fun. Get your kids in the spirit of winter with these writing prompts for the season.
As the winter season rolls around, you may want to help your child get into the winter spirit by writing. Writing is a great activity for children of all ages because it allows your child to express his or her feelings without boundaries. While your child is taking a long holiday vacation, have him or her keep a winter journal each day. Even very young children can enjoy this activity. Here are some winter writing prompts for your child. Preschool Writing PromptsPreschoolers do not have the spelling or handwriting skills of older children, but that does not mean they cannot express themselves with writing. You can have your child dictate what she wants to say and you can write it or type it. Then you can ask your child to illustrate her words. At the end of winter, make a book for your child to look at later. Here are some winter related prompts for your preschooler:
Grade School Writing PromptsAs children get older, in grades kindergarten through fifth, they can express themselves better with writing. Their handwriting and spelling improves and they can more easily put their thoughts into words on paper. It is important that children of this age write even if they do make mistakes. Instead of focusing on grammatical or spelling errors, focus on what they have to say. When you offer praise, they will be more encouraged to continue expressing their feelings through writing. Kindergartners and first graders will do better with simple prompts, while older children can handle more thought-provoking prompts. You might even use these prompts to get your kid to write a poem.
